In her complaint to the Prime Minister, Dr. Sushma Amithaab stated that her mother-in-law legally purchased a parcel of land in Hebya village in 2007, which was duly registered with the Thandavapura Gram Panchayat. The power of attorney for the property was granted to her husband, Amithaab A. She alleged that soon after the purchase, certain local individuals began threatening the family with the intention of extorting money and forcibly grabbing the land.

According to the victim, her husband was also physically attacked over the land dispute, following which he approached the JMFC Court in Nanjangudu seeking a permanent injunction. The court passed an order in their favour; however, despite the judicial protection, the alleged miscreants continued to issue threats and harass the family.

The complaint further states that around six months ago, the accused blocked the victim’s vehicle and issued threats of raping her and kidnapping her four-year-old son. When the family approached the police, they were allegedly refused registration of an FIR, and only a non-cognizable report was recorded.

She has also claimed that despite making multiple emergency calls to the police during the incident, no help arrived. Even the next day, police officials allegedly hesitated to register an FIR. After sustained pressure, a case was registered only for attempt to rape, while no FIR was registered regarding the alleged attempt to murder her husband.

The complaint further alleges that the accused continued to threaten the victim’s minor son even in the presence of police personnel. Despite this, no arrests have been made so far. According to the victim, she escalated the matter up to the DIG level, following which police security was provided for only three days.

In her letter to the PMO, the victim has also accused sections of the local administration and certain Panchayat-level officials of indirectly supporting the accused, forcing her family to live in constant fear.

Appealing for urgent intervention, the victim has sought permanent police protection for her family, strict action against erring police officials, registration of all appropriate criminal cases under serious sections of law, and an impartial and independent investigation into the entire matter. She has also urged the Prime Minister and the top leadership of the Congress party to intervene to ensure justice and safety.
